Last Thursday, we had the absolute privilege of being invited to one of the most prestigious sunglasses events on the calender; Carrera Sunglasses‘ Ignition Night! Held at the stunning House of St. Barnabas in Soho, London this event was designed to celebrate all things Carrera with celebrities, models and retailers all queuing up to get their own piece of the action. The venue was laid out perfectly with each room representing a different branch of Carrera Sunglasses, from the multi-coloured and vibrant Craze collection right through to the slightly more subdued and classy Muse collection. This incredibly well thought out floor plan gave us all the opportunity to see each of the ranges individually rather than lumped together and it really gave you an idea of the depth of thought involved in their production process.

But this event was not just about selling sunglasses, it was in fact one of the best parties London had seen that week! Previously held in Milan and New York, the Carrera Ignition Night really knew how to rock with DJ sets from Pixie Geldof, Amber Le Bon and Nick Grimshaw all helping to set the place alight. You couldn’t find a wall in the building that wasn’t brightly illuminated with the Carrera Sunglasses logo and their amazing ’step and repeat’ wall showcased their models brandishing their new sunglasses! Some of the world’s most well known models also made an appearance including renowned D&G model David Gandy. But it wasn’t just models, celebrities such as Mikita Oliver and Tamara Beckwith graced us with their presence and couldn’t speak more highly about the new Carrera Sunglasses collections! Taking a trip upstairs you could find an amazing pathway into Carrera history with glass topped tables framing some of Carrera’s greatest ever hits; this included their strong links with aviation and of course their racing prowess.

Each of the frames in the new collections are laced with history and combined with the projected future of the brand; whether it be with their classic cool Carrera 6000 Sunglasses or the slightly more ‘out-there’ Carrera 6008 Sunglasses you were sure to find a pair you adored. Last weekend saw the UK’s largest free tribute festival make it’s way back to St. Mary’s Park in Prestwich, Manchester and we sponsored the whole event! There were some huge names in attendance including Enraged, Higher On Maiden, Mentallica and the Reet Hot Chili Peppers; all of which rocked the Shade Station Main Stage over the course of the weekend. Thousands of rock and roll pilgrims made their way from across the country to see the spectacle that was Festwich 2013 and let me tell you, they were not disappointed! Wall to wall rock music was juxtaposed by an awesome fun fair, hardcore bungee rides and even ‘zorbing’ for the kid in all of us.

The usually quiet St. Mary’s Park lit up from 10am on Saturday morning and didn’t stop rocking until Sunday evening, much to the pleasure of every music fan in a 10 mile radius! Saturday’s weather was beautiful and we managed to catch a glimpse of some brilliant sunglasses too – previous Shade Station customers I presume. Oakley Sunglasses, Ray-Ban Sunglasses, Chanel Sunglasses and even a set of Tom Ford Sunglasses protected the eyes of the hard rock faithful over the weekend and allowed them to get an even better view of the Shade Station Main Stage.

Accurist Watches are quite simply national treasures and seem to have been around for as long as people can remember. Last week we had the absolute pleasure of being invited onto world record breaker, Alex Thomson’s Hugo Boss Watches Monohull Boat and it was quite simply incredible. Thomson smashed the world record for ‘West to East Ambrose Lighthouse to Lizard Point Under 60ft Single-Handed Monohull Record, Male’ by over 24 hours! The 38 year old sailor crossed the line at 17:17GMT which set the new time at 8 days 22 hours 8 minutes, beating the previous record, which had been held for 10 years. A man of this amazing stature deserves the backing of a brand as big as Hugo Boss Watches and they have served him well with the sensational racing boat he took us out on.

The inside of the boat is a technical marvel, every inch of hull and every piece of equipment has been designed to withstand the harshest conditions, whilst providing the sailor with ease of use and downright speed. The entire boat is made from carbon fibre to ensure that the best possible times are produced and this particular boat had already been around the world once!

The recent summer months have actually provided us with some sunshine here in the UK and this has inspired a plethora of new styles from the biggest names and some newbies alike! With Autumn creeping up, it is essential to have the right eyewear for your time in what remains of the sun and here at Shade Station we are more than happy to provide you with some friendly advice for which pair to purchase this season. New styles are hitting the shelves from the likes of Ray-Ban Sunglasses, Oakley Sunglasses, Chanel Sunglasses, Gucci Sunglasses, Dior Sunglasses, Giorgio Armani Sunglasses and Tom Ford Sunglasses whilst some of the newer brands have also released some sure-fire future classics. In this update we are going to look at each brand and see what’s the best purchase this Autumn!

Oakley Sunglasses are huge. Their mixture of science and art has seen them become one of the world’s biggest sunglasses brands with celebrities and athletes alike all adorning these awesome frames. For this season Oakley have an amazingly eclectic range of eyewear; the Oakley Breadbox Sunglasses, Oakley Wiretap Sunglasses, Oakley RSVP Sunglasses, Oakley Pulse Sunglasses and Oakley Hall Pass Sunglasses; all of which combining innovative technology with beautiful designs. Made from Oakley’s patented polycarbonate compound, Plutonite, all of the above sunglasses’ lenses are simply unrivalled in the sunglass world. Unlike the vast majority of other lenses, Plutonite itself is 100% UVA, UVB and UVC protective which means that even if they are scratched, dropped or chipped the lenses will still completely protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. If you like your Oakley Sunglasses then I’m sure you will have heard the term ‘HDO’ before; this stands for HD Optics which Oakley use in their lenses to provide complete clarity of vision right up to the periphery of your sight. This term encompasses Oakley’s (also patented) XYZ Optics, an amazing innovation which tapers each lens from the middle out to the edges of the sunglass and will correct any refraction of light as it passes through the lens.

The new Oakley Breadbox Sunglasses are easily the most anticipated out of the new range and it is down to the ‘out-there’ styling that this has been the case. A pronounced brow line on the Breadbox means that they naturally accentuate the features of your face all whilst keeping your eyes safe and sound from impacts and dangerous UV rays. Made from O Matter, the frame is strong, durable yet incredibly flexible which allows to movement whilst still being lightweight on your face. Thanks to Oakley’s three-point fit technology, the frame will only contact your face in three areas; above your ears and on your nose which means that it will easily fit the vast majority of head sizes and shapes! The other notable frame is the Oakley Wiretap Sunglasses which actually feature a thin half wire frame which takes over where it’s predecessor, the Oakley Half Wire 2.0 left off. Semi-rimless frames mean physically less material and therefore they are lighter and easier to wear all day. Part of the ‘active’ range from Oakley, they also feature Unobtanium earsocks which will get gripper when they become moist. This means that when you sweat, the sunglasses will stay firmly in place and not fall off like some other, lower price point brands.

Oakley focus on the science in their eyewear, however Ray-Ban Sunglasses focus on the pure fashion and styling element of their designs; to brilliant effect. The most recognised new release from Ray-Ban for this summer is the Ray-Ban RB3507 Aluminium Clubmaster Sunglasses; a reinvention of the classic Clubmaster, these beautiful frames are now made from brushed aluminium for a truly gorgeous appearance. Retaining its timeless look, the Aluminium Clubmaster Sunglasses weigh next-to-nothing and come in a colour palette designed to suit the brushed metal and crystal lenses. Although they are shaped like the classic Clubmasters, there are subtle nuances that really set them apart. For example, the arms are thinner allowing them to sit closer to the side of your face, they have a brushed metal effect to the paintwork and even the nosebridge has been curved for added effect. Cushioned adjustable nosepieces are perfect for these metal frames as they allow for customisation whilst keeping the shape true to the classic Clubmaster look. As per all Ray-Ban Sunglasses, the brand name is displayed proudly in the corner of the left lens as a sign of Ray-Ban’s continued passion and fervour for eyewear perfection. Suitable for both men and women, the Aluminum Clubmaster sunglasses truly are unmistakable icons for the 21st century!

Reinvention is the name of the game for Ray-Ban this season with the release of the Ray-Ban RB3044 Sunglasses – a new look to the classic Aviator Sunglasses. Almost identical to the classic aviator, the RB3044 features the well recognised ‘teardrop’ effect lenses and thin wire frames, however the colour schemes have been given a total makeover. Available in a range of colours from dazzling orange right through to seductive pink, the RB3044 Sunglasses are sure to set the world alight this season. If you like the classic Aviator, but want something a little more ‘out there’, the Ray-Ban RB3044 Sunglasses are the perfect addition to your Autumn outfit.

Wow, what a pairing! When we heard that there will be a range of Carrera Sunglasses designed by Jimmy Choo himself, we clambered to get a sneak-peek of the predictably stunning frames. Although everything is a little thin on the ground at the moment with regards to exact details, we have enough information to give you guys a little preview. We know firstly that they are due for release in October of this year and that the images we have seen so far are AMAZING! Classic Carrera Sunglasses frames have been overhauled with Jimmy Choo Sunglasses styling – glittery leopard print and semi-translucent red frames are the tip of the iceberg.

So what can you expect from this combination? Well, they are being produced by Carrera Sunglasses which means that the quality is going to be integral during the production process. Carrera are always extra vigilant when it comes to build quality and durability – meaning that these beautiful pieces can also withstand the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Their lenses are also made to exacting standards and have amazing optics…and if the lenses looking super cool is a byproduct of this, then we are more than fine with that!
