Luxottica and Google Glass – Redefining ‘geek chic’

$

Earlier in the week it was announced that Google Glass, the computer-spectacle hybrid championed by sci-fi fans the world over, is to get a makeover from the owners of Ray-Ban and Oakley.

Luxottica, parent company of the world’s two biggest eyewear manufacturers, has confirmed that they will create ‘innovative, iconic wearable devices’ for Google and their flagship device. Considering that two of the powerhouses of modern fashion will be at the helm of the design, it suggests that Google wants to make a statement in both the artistic world as well as the scientific one.

UBS analyst Fred Speirs said this week that ‘convincing consumers to wear computers on their face is a fashion problem as much as it is a technology problem’, and here at Shade Station we’re adamant that, if anyone can conquer the fashion world and stay at the forefront of innovation, it’s the company that first placed mp3 players in glasses (the Oakley THUMP) a decade ago this year.

No financial deals or limitations were disclosed, but we get the feeling that Google and Luxottica will use as much of their resources as possible to deliver the best product they can first time around.

As you can imagine, we’re pretty intrigued to see how this partnership will turn out and the incredible results we all expect. And the best thing? We may well be providers of Google Glass when they burst onto the market in 2015 (or so it’s predicted).

As usual, for groundbreaking eyewear, watch this space.

Style Update – Spring 2014

Naturally, spring has sprung in true British style with April showers, icy winds and the whispered rumblings of a glorious mini-heatwave tipped to hit our shores in the coming weeks. With this jolly spiffing news in mind, it’s time to dig out the picnic baskets from the bottom of the wardrobe, pick out your best tea sets and start panic-buying cloudy lemonade and cucumber sandwiches. But whichever way you look at it, all those smiling eyes are going to need protection.

Symbols of a burgeoning counterculture in the 1960s, sunglasses are a staple in the modern accessories market especially when it comes to beachwear. For most people, it’s impossible to feel fully clothed without sunglasses on a warm, bright day and here at Shade Station we know the needs of the modern market and you, our valued customer. Nothing feels more comforting than a pair of sunglasses that feel just right, with the style and shade of lens you’ve been looking for. That’s why with a majority of our prescription sunglasses, we offer tints and accents to suit any eye style or strength along with photochromic and polarised lenses depending on the supplier. Our sunglasses are customisable with the emphasis on quality and comfort, with some daring designs and revolutionary models to match.

Summer’s hotting up early, so why not make the most of our incredible offers from Shade Station? With a huge array of new and bestselling sunglasses, goggles and watches, we’re the top choice for those dog-day afternoons coming up. Whether you’re planning for staycations, sun-kissed beaches or ski and snowboard wonderlands, we’ve got the lion’s share of luxury eyewear and summer accessories from the world’s finest designers.

And for sports fans, it’s also time to raise a glass/bottle/can of energy drink to Oakley sunglasses; they’re celebrating 30 years of precision sports eyewear! To mark this momentous occasion, Oakley have released their Heritage collection which include their iconic Frogskins, Eyeshades and Razor Blades made to beat the best, surpassing US government standards (and rival’s expectations) since 1984. Featuring Unobtainium earsocks and pressure-free nosepads, the Eyeshades burst onto the scene in 1984 when Gary LeMond wore them during his 2nd-placed year at the Tour de France. Testament to its performance, it stands the test of time as the benchmark for future cycling sunglasses. The Frogskins followed in 1985, and the Razorblades in 1988 after years of research to achieve sporting excellence. The three sets of Oakley sunglasses, if bought together, come in a sleek, stylish presentation box exclusive to Shade Station. There are only 15 of these boxes available so get those orders in quickly! Oakley Heritage sunglasses are, and always have been, ideal for strenuous exercise, extreme sports and – in the case of Frogskins – achieving that ‘afterparty’ vibe all in one attractive box-set package!

Ray-Ban sunglasses, as ever, are superbly popular for summer; evoking the beach parties and fun-loving hedonism of the Eighties in a time when retro never sleeps, Ray-Ban sunglasses keep on living and providing countless revitalisations of their best designs. The Wayfarer, Aviator and Clubmaster models are consistently the most popular with a variety of reconstructions and re-imaginations in an incredible array of materials. Lately, the Wayfarer’s available wrapped in genuine leather, with its iconic thick frames and squared lenses with the ultimate comfort in mind, while the classic Aviator model has been revamped with Full Colour lenses and Flat Metal frames, meaning that the classic lightweight frame is even lighter with laser-cut aluminium. And the Clubmaster just keeps getting better with age; ranging from the RB2176 Folding model to the RB4132 Cathy range, the sheer variety of frames alone is enough to test the intellectuals that wear them in search for that ultimate ‘academia’ look.

Now if there’s anyone who can do ‘sun-kissed’ to perfection it has to be Dolce and Gabbana and this season they don’t look to disappoint, with some fascinating and frankly wild new designs coming ready for the summer. Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses have lined up the Sicilian Flowers collection, an exciting new range featuring the iconic Sicilian style and a newer ‘retro’-effect flower print. The DG4232, DG4236, DG4231 and DG4230M are the ones to watch, with positive reviews for both men’s and women’s styles. The Sicilian Flowers collection comes with both prescription and non-prescription lenses for glasses/sunglasses, with a strong frame making them ideal for everyday and holiday wear.

The truly ‘wild’ factor of Dolce and Gabbana’s summer range comes in the Basalto collection, a classic Italian design with squared-off frames and rims, lightweight arms and gilded hinges. The incredible secret, however, lies in the fact that the body is made of volcanic rock (basalt, to be specific) creating a slim profile that is both strong and extremely flexible. The colour options so far are Havana with brown lenses, as well as black/honey with grey lenses, though judging by the interest already generated by this incredible product, we may expect more!

Prada’s speciality isn’t just on the catwalks, but in the sunshine too. Their exciting new collection shows that their shades are still as adventurous as they ever were, with the versatility and grace that made Prada the official tailors to the Italian royal family. The new collection feature bright colours, square frames, and thick arms with a variety of dazzling hues on display; the inspiration behind Prada sunglasses and their newest designs is ‘absolute catwalk’, combining fun, daring and street styles into their newest pieces. The PR26QS, PR17QS and the PR55RV are the designs most talked about at the moment, as their muted styles and elegant frames are merely a sign of the incredible things to come.

Bvlgari are breaking out the bubbly this summer as they’re celebrating 130 glorious years of design and innovation, and to commemorate this groundbreaking anniversary they’re releasing their Roma sunglasses collection to hit the stores in time for the beach holidays. Inspired by their signature Bvlgari-design watch bracelets, these beautiful Bvlgari sunglasses are encrusted with snakeskin-inspired scales around the temples, finishing with a gorgeous pair of squared rims and chromatic tint lenses.

Michael Kors watches have been in inspired form recently, with their contemporary updates on timely classics. For example, the Double-Wrap leather MK2322 series makes for interesting viewing; the strap is made from two pieces of genuine leather, intertwined in a challenging and daring way. The watch face is made with gold hour indicators and bear the Michael Kors logo in the centre. Compare that to the Michael Kors Parker and Lexington watch ranges, which have been revamped for the new season with a range of different coloured faces including blue, red and pink and the Lexington Triology models, which work to update the classic generation of Michael Kors watches with different coloured faces and a range of new straps and bracelets to celebrate the arrival of sunshine and longer days. The Michael Kors Parker range has also been rejuvenated with the Glitz range, including a whole host of new textures and hues, all available from Shade Station.

Also celebrating their 30th anniversary, along with Oakley, Fossil’s Townsman range looks to cement its reputation as a reliable, long-lasting timepiece with a stunning full-face logo design; with a variety to choose from, the best in casual wear watches just got better with a strong brown leather strap and a 2 year guarantee. The Grant and Georgia ranges go hand in hand as men’s and women’s formal watches with a difference. Our newest import is the Georgia range of 3-hand Leather strap watches. Including the ES3467, the Fossil Georgia set of watches come with an interesting, bohemian twist on the classic Georgia wristwatch style. The Grant, on the other hand, has a strong range of faces (including a Dali-esque number in the ME1144) to choose from with its iconic brown leather strap holding it all together.

Emporio Armani’s Tazio collection is perfect for the summer and already proving to be a bestseller; with a three-hand movement dial available as standard, a date window, optional chronograph and a date counter dial, the Tazio collection makesd the leather strap versions and silver bracelet versions as practical as they are beautiful. Watches tell more than just time, as Giorgio Armani himself says, and this collection seems to fight the case very well. Just ask our customers!

To truly capture British summer-time style, rely on Shade Station’s Spring offers to help you enjoy the longer days with the minimum of eye fatigue and keep track of them!

The Oakley Ferarri Collection: Harder, Faster, Stronger

$

Being official suppliers of Oakley sunglasses, we’ve a fair few sports fans among us here at Shade Station. Be it climbing, skiing, cycling, playing golf, squash, tennis or football, we at SSHQ we know what we’re looking for in sports eyewear. We know the ins and outs of professional sports sunglasses, how they work, how they look and how the perfect pair should feel. Couple this with the excitement factor, and we end pretty much fawning over what we consider to be the nirvana of sports performance sunglasses.

If you asked the office 6 months ago which our favourite collection was so far, we’d have given completely different answers. We’d have whittled it down to three key points;

  • The sunglasses need to work hard. Performance is key to the perfect pair.
  • They need to be light, durable and stylish. Hard work is nothing without making it look effortless.
  • They need to be comfortable. After all, these are what you’ll be wearing when you’re pushing yourself to the limit.

Given the recent news though, the decision for a collection of eyewear combining all the factors we like here is unanimous. The Oakley Ferrari collection is THE collection to beat for style, substance and sheer excitability; they’re Oakley classics with an exciting, F1-style twist.

The likes of Fernando Alonso and Shaun White would provide testament to just how good Oakley sunglasses are. Starting with the 2014 season, Oakley is now the official sponsor and provider of F1 racing’s eyewear. What better way to commemorate this than with the classic Oakley Carbon Blade, the Two-Face, the Tin Can, The Fuel Cell and many others given the Ferrari treatment! These special edition sunglasses come with classic Oakley DNA like Plutonite, XYZ Optics and Unobtainium earsocks, but with Ferrari’s beautiful ‘prancing horse’ insignia and a stunning O Matter frame to match.

No pair of Oakley sunglasses would be complete without a grand entrance, so with that in mind the designers at Ferrari have come up with a beautiful and unique presentation case for this incredible special edition. The sunglasses also come with a microfibre bag for easy carrying and day-to-day storage.

We’re amazed at the amount of variations Ferrari and Oakley have made to the traditional sunglasses designs, and we think you will be too. Here at Shade Station we’re proud to stock these stunning glasses and the full incredible range. With comfort, style and endurance being the key, these designs are the pinnacle of Oakley’s work so far and a stunning insight of things to come!

Two out of three…..brilliance from Bubba

Oakley Sunglasses athlete; Bubba Watson from Bagdad, Florida has answered his critics by winning his second US Masters in the past three years.  Many believe luck comes into play when a player wins his first major tournament but Bubba has shown this weekend that raw natural talent mixed with strong determination proves it was no fluke.

The professional golfer was made an Oakley Eyewear athlete last year and has done multiple, events, photo shoots and videos with the global eyewear brand.  All weekend he was sporting Oakley Apparel from their unique golfing range.  With no professional training and being the hardest hitter on the PGA tour he lead from day one making his total strokes for the four rounds of 280 (-8)….three shots ahead of his nearest contender.

Bubba Watson - 2014 US Masters Champion

Bubba Watson – 2014 US Masters Champion

Things were starting to look a little shaky for Watson on his third round as he slipped back to  match second place but he pulled out all of the stops and used his experience from two years ago to pull out a huge lead on day 4.  By the time he was coming up to the 18th green it was all over; 4 putt’s for the Championship.

Shade Station would like to offer all congratulations to Bubba Watson and his family.

As usual in the US Masters it wasn’t all about the winner and the events of the weekend played out dramatically to offer the spectators a scintillating spectacle.  It was rare to spot a golfer this weekend that wasn’t sporting a pair of Oakley Sunglasses.  Sports performance, lifestyle and active frames all made an appearance at the Augusta National.

The European charge was spearheaded by the cool and collected Swedish golfer Jonas Blixt.  Miguel Angel Jimenez the Spanish golfer was sporting a pair of Oakley Plaintiff sunglasses

Miguel Angel Jiminez sporting Oakley Plaintiff Sunglasses

and Lee Westwood from England all made it in on the final day under par for the tournament.  Westwood looked in form all weekend and made a spectacular putt on the second day.  If you saw it, it was a 1 in 100 shot.

Out of all of the competitors this weekend 24 of them were Rookies who were all playing in their first Augusta National Masters.  This shows great potential for the future as 2 of them made it in under par for the tournament.  A tough achievement as only 7 players finished with an under par total.  Irelands Rory McIlroy clawed his way back to finish even par.

Woefully this is the end for another year at the US Masters; a true highlight in the sporting calendar.  Can Bubba claim his third Masters title next year or can one of the young guns steal the spotlight?  Only time will tell and we will all be looking forward to it.

Serengeti Sunglasses: A Clear Transition

$

For sunglasses that keep their cool in the hottest temperatures, it has to be the Serengeti range of sunglasses as they’ve ruled the roost of transitional and photochromic eyewear for almost 30 years. They’re both edgy and cutting edge, with so much scientific research at Serengeti’s disposal. For the past three decades too, they’ve been crafted by the hands of some of the eyewear world’s top designers.

Serengeti sunglasses are a sight to behold for drivers and aviators whose eyes are tired of the sun. They work so well because each pair is made with photochromic technology and combine beautifully with Spectral Control, a revolutionary way of blocking UVA/B rays from damaging your eyes. The lenses can be made in Polar HD materials too, polarised to resist glare while reducing the weight of the sunglasses and greatly improving lens strength.

Serengeti sunglasses are perfect for high-glare activities like fishing, driving and flying with optional Trivex frames to make them as strong as the lenses. They’re held together beautifully by spring hinges, meaning the Serengetis can take a lot more strain around the eyes as well as over them.

Influenced by Italian styles of sunglasses, the frames come in some incredible collections with unique takes on the likes of aviators, touring glasses and sports cuts. They’re available with various prescription lenses and the same care and attention that goes into every pair of Serengetis.

Serengeti technology was first started in 1902 when Corning’s patented Serengeti windshields blocked distracting blue light and let through red, yellow and green light (or ‘driving colours’ as they called them). Since then they’ve always pushed the envelope and have done for driving and flying glasses what the likes of Oakley have done for sports performance.

The variety of materials on offer is immense, with nylon, acetate, titanium and patented Trivex frames available. They all provide lightweight alternatives to competitor’s frames and boast incredibly strong curves and hinges for maximum durability. These are truly traveller’s sunglasses for all the strength and character you would want to take around the world.

A first for Shade Station, we’re glad to have Serengeti on board and are looking forward to their latest ranges on offer. We hope you are too, and that you’ll discover a pair of sunglasses that help you capture a moment as beautiful as the frames you’re wearing.

Style Update – Prescription sunglasses for Spring/Summer 2014

Not just a fashion accessory any more, prescription sunglasses are one of the most important things to help glasses wearers truly enjoy the summer sunshine. Strengths can be easily altered here at Shade Station, as the needs of the modern market require the utmost in new designs and up-to-date lens manipulation. Along with photochromic lenses, polarised coatings and a huge range of tints and accents depending on the supplier, we are almost always at the beating heart of the lens prescription market online. With this entry, we intend to show you the huge array of lenses and frames on offer, each with their own unique charms and capabilities.

First up this season, we have the revolutionary Oakley range which seem to step up to the plate and achieve incredible standards year in, year out. Stunningly rendered frames make way for truly eye-catching lenses, as almost all come with specialist Oakley patents. Take a look at our Oakley prescription range and you will see an incredible selection of strong designs with O Matter frames, Unobtainium earsocks, air-filled silicon nosepads, optional HDO and Iridium coatings, and a whole variety of tints to choose from. Oakley’s signature Holbrook frames are a classic take on the ‘Wayfarer’ style of sunglass, as well as the Frogskin. They both offer 100% protection from UV light and are adaptable for prescription lenses, with HDO and Iridium coatings available.

Ray-Ban sunglasses are the obvious choice for any style-conscious beach goer, with a huge range of designs and inspired takes on their classic frames. But did you know that here at Shade Station we offer prescription lenses for them? With classic designs such as the Wayfarer, Clubmaster and Aviator all available for the prescription treatment, the strengths of each lens can work in harmony as well as the frames. The prescription lenses on offer are unique to Shade Station, and we are as pleased to provide this service as we are to provide the sunglasses themselves.

Chanel prescription sunglasses are part of the chic, elegant range of sunglasses that we offer at Shade Station and a huge number of our frames work together beautifully with our lenses. The unmistakable Chanel brand combines form and function, but here we can provide an even longer shelf-life for your favourite pair of sunglasses with our prescription lenses and variety of tints/accents for both frames and lenses. A variety of strengths are available from us, ready to greatly benefit the frames from the powerhouse of fashion that brought you Chanel No. 5 and ‘Madamoiselle Coco’ herself. The CH5287 is a brand new example of this classic brand doing what it does best.

Tom Ford began designing for the biggest fashion houses in the world, including Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. His own brand, launched in 2004, echoes what he learned from that time and his prescription sunglasses are no exception. Taking into mind the director’s mind that Tom Ford possesses, the frames of his signature glasses are as excitingly orchestrated as his films. The acetate frames allow for maximum durability and scope for adaptation, and at Shade Station we allow our prescription lenses to be moulded to exact specifications. The Tom Ford Saskia, Grace and Riccardo frames are great options available for prescription lenses.

Prada‘s strengths lie in the ability to make intricate, exciting ideas from what would be seen as everyday materials. Famous for her nylon parkas, Miuccia Prada became a powerhouse of fashion in her own right with an array of interesting and minimalist thought-pieces. Prada’s range of prescription sunglasses work in this same vein, with lenses available in many materials and can be utilised in lots of different ways, such as for short-distance and long-distance vision (including reading and computer use). The Prada Baroque PR33PS is a prime example of a frame done beautifully, and when combined with our lenses fuses functionality too.

Dolce and Gabbana prescription sunglasses emerge from the Italian fashion houses of the 1980s, as they take on a slightly retro but ultra-modern look throughout the collection. Combining these two exciting looks is an art form in itself, and Mssrs. Dolce and Gabbana do not fail to disappoint with their eye-catching eyewear sported by Madonna, Nicole Kidman and Isobella Rossellini among others. We also aim too to combine style and substance, with manipulated lenses done in-house by our lens grinding team.

BVLGARI prescription sunglasses follow this influential pattern in this post of Italian fashion houses and beautiful, functional designs. Incorporating oversized eyes with thin, durable frames, the BVLGARI sunglasses aim to echo the Greco-Roman influences of its former owner and founder, Sotirios Voulgaris. Loved by the likes of Angelina Jolie and Paris Hilton, BVLGARI aims to combine mythology and architecture into its fashionable designs. The  BV8131B is an eye-catching example of this trend and available for bespoke lens manipulation.

Finally, Michael Kors is probably most famous for his appearances on ‘Project Runway’ in the States, but his fashion design is almost instinctive, having grown up in New York state and attending (as well as designing) ‘trunk shows’ in private homes for years before landing his first big break. Michael Kors’ glasses take on classic styles and add exciting new twists to them, such as the Sicily Flash, a blinding take on the original Sicily. What happens with the lenses, however, is up to you; a variety of lenses and tints are on offer solely at Shade Station, with a stunning array of frames to accompany them also.

In the huge fashion houses of the world, there is never a dull moment and top-quality sunglasses are one of the most important things to help our customers truly enjoy the summer sunshine. A lot of work and craftsmanship goes into the designs that we feature on Shade Station, and we feel that our offers and prices are testament to their game-changing style. Providing photochromic lenses, polarised coatings and a huge range of tints and accents has always been part of our ethos and, with this in mind, we intend to show you the huge array of lenses and frames on offer for the coming months.

With necessity comes invention and to showcase this, we have the revolutionary Oakley range which achieves incredible standards in every category. The range of patents and unique designs Oakley offer are breath-taking, and if you take a look at our Oakley sunglasses range you will see an incredible selection of strong designs with O Matter frames, Unobtainium earsocks, Plutonite lenses as standard, air-filled/snagless silicon nosepads, optional HDO and Iridium coatings, and a whole variety of tints to choose from. New this season are the likes of Carbon Blade, Crankshaft, Chainlink, TinFoil, TinCan and the much sought-after Scuderia Ferrari Collection. Oakley is an agile, adaptive brand and here at Shade Station we ride with the changes to bring the best results in eye protection.

Ray-Ban sunglasses are stunningly crafted in the finest lightweight materials, with a huge range of designs and inspired collaborations that use their classic frames as templates for some incredible differences. With classic designs such as the Wayfarer, Clubmaster and Aviator all available in new and rare prints, the physical and visual strengths of each frame is as dynamic as the lenses have ever been. Ever since Ray-Ban’s humble beginnings in 1937, the constant re-invention shows no signs of stopping and we lead the way in providing these innovative, incredible designs.

Versace sunglasses fuse the finest in Italian design with incredible modern technology, cultivating a backstory and background entirely unique to this incredible brand. Gianni Versace began designing at the tender age of 25, but his reputation already preceded him; mildly obsessed with the mythology and fantasy, he began to craft stunning, stylish fashion pieces that brought a new meaning to the word ‘retrospective’. The same still stands today, with Versace being the masters of their own fate, as well as being inspired by Pop-Art ‘mythology’, Andy Warhol and the Beat generation. The beautiful new releases for 2014 include the Pop Chic and Rock Icons collections, and here at Shade Station we bring the future to an incredibly historic and stunning brand.

Serengeti sunglasses are at the cornerstone of driving and aviation glasses even today, with their desire to innovate and change the state of play in the modern eye-wear market. For almost 130 years, the Serengeti brand of lenses and coatings have focused on not just the protection but how the eye is protected. In 1877 the Corning parent company created a range of lenses to cover railway signal lamps that wouldn’t shatter in extreme temperature changes, unlike most of their competitors. Today they provide award-winning sunglasses with photochromic lenses, that adjust to extreme weather changes and allow for optimum eye protection. Their products may have different audiences but their intention is still the same, and here at Shade Station we offer this incredible protection for the best prices possible. Check out the Tosca, Brando and Aerial ranges for an insight on this brilliant, versatile brand.

Chanel‘s brand reflects the staggering journey that the brand has taken, and their 2014 range of sunglasses is no exception. The sunglasses themselves are crafted from the finest and most durable materials that truly embody the solid foundations and the minimalist stylings of ‘Coco’ Chanel, who famously stated that while fashions may come and go, ‘style endures’. Beautiful, eccentric yet timeless designs are the order of the day at Chanel with a whole host of strong features and subtle decadence. Here at Shade Station, we are particularly proud of our understanding of the Chanel philosophy and we keep the best prices for style to endure once again.

Michael Kors is probably a little notorious for appearing on ‘Project Runway’ in the US, but his fashion design is almost innate, having grown up in New York state and attending (as well as designing) ‘trunk shows’ in private homes for years before becoming fashion guru to the stars. Michael Kors’ sunglasses take on classic styles and reinvigorate them; hot new looks for 2014 include the Claremont, a graduated take on the traditional oversize frame, and Brynn (a fabulous reworking of the Aviator). A variety of lenses and tints are on offer solely at Shade Station, with a stunning array of frames to accompany them also.

Chloé sunglasses work to provide sleek, stylish design with a modern French twist for any occasion. Utilising the finest modern materials and garnering inspiration coming from all across the world, Chloé glasses are the ultimate in ultra-feminine fashion eyewear. Chloé glasses are crafted mostly from acetate and metal, with a variety of designs that reflect the uniqueness of the brand and the strength of the integral design itself. Function and form are the elements of every Chloé design, gaining global success and establishing its sweet, vibrant brand to places as diverse as Japan, USA and the United Arab Emirates. At Shade Station, we stock such exciting ranges as the CE630S and CE611S, both new to the site and already proving to be the most talked-about.

Oliver Peoples West sunglasses stand on their own in the eyewear market,  incorporating timeless and elegant styles that ooze Hollywood exclusivity and renegade style. A fashion mainstay of the creme de la creme, Oliver Peoples West has a variety of exciting patents (such as Mali-Blu lenses)  that excites the palate and strengthens the stunning foundations of  this incredible fashion powerhouse. Named after significant people and places in California’s history, the Wests to look out for on our site are the San Luis, Hobson, Cabrillo and Manzanita.

Tom Ford sunglasses represent the years of determination and hard work Ford himself spent in designing for Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and many more. His own brand, launched in 2004, is testament to his experiences and his sunglasses prove that time and again. The frames of his signature glasses are as excitingly orchestrated as his films, with the acetate frames possessing incredible durability and adaptation. The Tom Ford Saskia, Grace and Riccardo frames are great options with vibrant, exciting lenses and we are proud to be purveyors of these superb ranges.

Style Update – watches for Spring/Summer 2014

Fossil watches are a vintage re-working of modern watches, with a whole array of smart features that go beyond what we’d expect of the retro exterior. The Fossil philosophy dates back to 1984 and, even 30 years ago, challenged the mere functionality of watches to make them avant-garde and respective of their own stories. Thus, vintage restyling was born. The watches that Fossil makes today still present that brilliant interplay with old and new, hosting a variety of distressed leather straps and old-style, chunky watch faces. The exciting new developments in Fossil watches mean that seemingly unusual materials like ceramics are used, and the new line of Fossils are beautifully represented through their desire to change and innovate. The Fossils to look out for on Shade Station are the Grant, Jacqueline and Virginia all coming soon in May 2014.

With Michael Kors, delicate hues and ornate signature designs are the hot look of the season. Michael Kors watches place emphasis on the cool and casual look while using generally ‘chichi’ materials like rose gold plating, horn effect material and tortoiseshell stylings. The ideals of the Michael Kors brand seems to go from strength to strength, allowing for a vast range of new and improved takes on classic chronograph timepieces and with Michael Kors himself still at the helm of all things design, the character and sense of humour of the brand will be present for years to come. The Michael Kors watches to snap up on Shade Station include the Lansing, the Camille and the Lexington, all beautiful variations on an ornate theme.

DKNY, the untameable powerhouse of New York fashion, challenges the status quo yet again with this incredible range of watches all available for the 2014 collections. Each named after prominent areas and landmarks in New York, the DKNY range of watches focus on the energy of the body and the contours just as Donna Karen herself does with each of her clothing designs. The eclectic mix of materials and watchmaking processes are the epitome of DKNY’s work, and the watches provide a counterbalance to similarly-priced ‘dress’ watches on the market. Ideal for casual, semi-formal or black tie occasions, the DKNYs to look out for on Shade Station include the Soho, the Beekman, the Jitney and the Crosswalk. We’re proud to stock this fashion house’s repertoire, as the eccentric designs and unusually minimalist creations still amaze and inspire.

Same city, different rules is the mantra for Caravelle New York watches as they produce a 2014 collection as evocative and individual as NYC itself. Classically stunning, the Caravelle New York 2014 collection is a beautiful reminder of vintage NY inspired watches, fusing ‘Prohibition’-style glamour with modern watchmaking precision and technique. The unisex collection, too, has a variety of retro designs that harken back to the late 70s/early 80s, heralding the dynamic integrity of the city and the birth of New York as a global super-power. The Caravelle 2014 collection integrates rose-gold, stainless steel, sub dial chronographs and strong durable details to create a set of masterpieces. Particular Caravelle watches to look out for in the 2014 collection include the Melissa, Logan, Carla and Bangle options. Shade Station is the one-stop shop for the best deals on Caravelle watches, and these new designs are no exception.

Scuderia Ferrari continues to excite and involve Ferrari fans from across the world and with their new set of watches, the excitement is whipped up to an even higher plateau. Speed and fluidity are the cornerstones of the Scuderia philosophy and with the introduction of the Quartz movement the same effect can be achieved on the wearer’s wrist as on the racetrack. Beautiful curves around the bezel and the strap are just part of the interplay between design and innovation, as well as distinctive silicone, stainless steel and leather straps available. The watch face itself comes in a variety of distinctive designs and reflects the innovative spirit that comes from decades of ruling the roost in motorsports. The Scuderia Ferrari watches new to 2014 include the likes of Pit Crew, Scuderia XX, and Aerodinamico.

Daniel Wellington‘s history is an unconventional one, with Filip Tysander (Daniel Wellington’s founder) meeting an actual Daniel Wellington on a trip to Australia. This British gentleman, Tysander recalls, was both ‘gentlemanly but still relaxed’ and his penchant for wearing chunky watches with NATO straps struck a chord with Tysander. Thus, Daniel Wellington became the brand that represented a new style and a whole generation of wearers. Mixing the best of Scandinavian minimalism with British charm and ingenuity, the Daniel Wellington brand creates a euphoric and cutting-edge answer to British ‘dress’ watches. Inspired and named after cities and towns within Britain, the Daniel Wellington range at Shade Station includes (but is far from limited to) the Warwick, Exeter, Sheffield and St. Andrew’s models.

Harbouring the best in Continental ingenuity and expertise, the Hugo Boss Black range of watches reflects years of mastering design and longevity into one vital package for any formal occasion. Manufacturing the best-known formal watches on the planet, Hugo Boss have branched out significantly with their latest collection which still utilises the famous masculine, chunky watch faces but in a new way. The straps come in leather, stainless steel bracelets or silicone rubber pieces that hold the watch together beautifully both physically and figuratively. The particular watches to look out for that represent and revolutionise the Hugo Boss watch include the 1512959, the 1512956 and the 1512975.

Bulova watches are renowned for being the most precise, the most innovative and the most technologically advanced of any American watch-makers, but it’s refreshing to know the same timekeeping technology for the 1969 moon landing can be found on your wrist. Bulova’s beautiful designs make their watches as attractive as they are accurate, and are available in a whole array of different bracelets, straps and casings including the Precisionist, Marine Star and Crystal Collection. The 2014 collection suits any variety of occasions, including semi-formal, black tie and even some casual occasions.

Prescription glasses are one of the most important everyday objects for a lot of people, but it surprised us at Shade Station just how difficult it seemed to get a decent prescription lens altered on the high street. Strengths can be easily altered here at Shade Station, as the needs of the modern market require the utmost in new designs and up-to-date lens manipulation – it’s no secret that our prescription lens team can alter and modify any set of lenses to equal, or even surpass, high street standards. Along with photochromic lenses, scratch-proof coatings and a huge range of tints and accents, we are almost always at the zenith of the lens prescription market online. With this entry, we’ll show you the staggering range of lenses and frames.

The perennial choice for any beach fashionista, Ray-Ban glasses come with a huge variety of designs and artistic takes on their most famous frames. But did you know that here at Shade Station we offer custom prescription lenses for all Ray-Ban glasses? The Wayfarer, Clubmaster and Aviator are all available for the prescription glasses treatment, meaning that the lenses on offer are unique to Shade Station. We are incredibly honoured to stock Ray-Ban prescription lenses suited with our custom Essilors, and we think that you will be pleased with the result.

Gorgeously rendered frames make way for truly eye-catching lenses with Oakley, as the vast majority come with unique Oakley patents. One look at our Oakley prescription range opens up a world of incredible selections, strong designs with O Matter frames, air-filled silicon nosepads, optional coatings and a whole variety of tints to choose from. Oakley frames bought at Shade Station would be equipped with our signature Essilor lenses (arguably the best customisable lenses on the market) but Plutonite prescription lenses direct from Oakley can be ordered.

Tom Ford‘s experience in some of the world’s fashion houses helped him launch his own brand in 2004, reflecting his experiences and his prescription glasses are an extension of this. The acetate frames allow for maximum durability and scope for adaptation, and at Shade Station we allow our prescription lenses to be moulded to exact specifications. The Tom Ford FT5292, 5005 and 5275 frames are great examples available with our Essilor lenses.

Glasses don’t come as chic and elegant as Chanel, and the range of frames that we offer at Shade Station work together beautifully with our lenses. The unmistakable Chanel brand works with beauty, form and functionality the three keystones, but here we can provide an even longer shelf-life for your favourite pair of glasses with our prescription lenses and variety of scratch-proof and anti-glare coatings. Add to this tints and accents for both frames and lenses, a variety of prescription strengths available from us, and the ingenuity of the brand that brought you No. 5 and ‘Madamoiselle Coco’ herself and you can see why the Chanel brand is a classic. The CH3230, 3277 and 3236Q are brand new examples of Chanel achieving even more.

From the Italian fashion houses,  two exciting looks combine in an art form in itself, and Mssrs. Dolce and Gabbana do not fail to amaze with their eye-catching eyewear sported by the great and the good. We also aim too to combine style and substance, with manipulated lenses done in-house by our lens grinding team with the easily-customisable Essilor range which consistently prove their worth and have provided thousands of happy customers. The Dolce and Gabbana DNA range, including the DNA DG3136 and DG5006 are part of the hot new look for this season.

Michael Kors is known for his incredibly popular watches, but is now a big player in the prescription glasses market. Thanks to the size of the Michael Kors empire, their glasses have proved their worth time and again. Crafted from some of the finest materials, Michael Kors Glasses are made for every day use with complete comfort and the sheer availability of tints and frame colours make for a large, unpretentious style of frame.

Luxottica and Google Glass – Redefining ‘geek chic’

Easy wearing, cooling and casual are all mainstay features of the beach scene especially this summer, but there are hardly any fashion houses that get the ultra-feminine, cheeky and humorous vibe just right. Whether you’re looking to travel to far off lands, dance under the stars or simply enjoy the sunshine wherever you go, Chloé sunglasses are a huge part of the French fashion house’s ethos, with an unprecedented array of options available and a staggering array of colours and tints.

Chloé sunglasses are crafted from acetate and metal, melding the line between functionality and stunning form. The forefront of every Chloé design is to provide a sexy, ultra-feminine and independent feel for that ultimate diversity and vibrancy. Gratuitous curves and gorgeously realised lenses are only part of Chloé’s makeup; the rest comes in the subtle, sultry quirks and intricate details that make the temples, frames, rims, and arms truly unique.

Robustness and beauty makes each pair on-point, and on-brand in one fell swoop. For over 60 years, the Chloé style has been known as ‘le style’, playing host to such vital influences to fashion like Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo and Gaby Agbion, the latter being the mastermind of the entire ‘Prêt-à-Porter’ industry.

Chloé sunglasses are the ideal transition between fashion and function, incorporating UV protection and beautiful, sturdy frames for everyday use. The Chloé sunglasses are ideal for almost any everyday occasion, be it semi-formal, black tie, casual, or even on the catwalk. Priding themselves on fluid femininity and curvaceous, subtle designs, the Parisian fashion house rewrites what it is to desire and be desired.

Oakley lifestyle collections 2014: a foray into the unknown

As game-changers go, Oakley is essentially the inventor of the modern eye protection industry, and creating new lines that improve on their classic designs must be a constantly tough act to follow. To change the very game you invented? That must be hard. So when you look at the collections coming this year, and their staggering takes on pioneering styles and inventions, you can only tip your hat to them as a resilient, inventive company that really isn’t afraid to push the envelope.

Taking inspiration from their ‘Max Fearlight’ campaign in the 1990s, the Fall Out collection creates the impression of post-apocalyptic style and street-smart coolness all in one frighteningly versatile package. Consisting of Breadbox, Holbrook and Frogskin designs, these stunning pieces utilise the very best in everyday wear with an eye-catching design; what makes this even better is the fact that it’s unique to every single pair. Hand-weathered and distressed to create a ‘rust decay’ effect, no two of these incredible frames are the same. With Plutonite lenses as standard and Iridium options available on all three styles, the Fall Out collection is a creative answer to the modern range of designer frames and is ideal for that ‘after party’ look with a twist.

Adding a variation on this apocalyptic theme, the Toxic Blast collection adds a touch of understated cool to the modern lifestyle sunglass with some incredible Violet Iridium, Fire Iridium and Jade Iridium lenses taking centre-stage. The Breadbox, Holbrook and Frogskin styles are revitalised with some subtly cool colour schemes and the familiar O Matter frames holding the pieces together beautifully. Again reflecting the ‘Max Fearlight’ campaign, the lenses are similar in style to the bright, radiation-themed lenses seen in the old adverts with all the Plutonite stylings and Iridium coatings that one would expect from this pioneer in eye protection design.

Last, but most certainly not least, is the Eric Koston range of Frogskins. This time the inspiration stems from the incredible hard work and dedication of one of skating’s finest sportsmen, who has collaborated with Oakley for these ultra-cool frames. Utilising a stunning camo set of designs and a sturdy, resilient pair of Plutonite lenses, these frames take the true craftsmanship of Oakley and gives it a real shake-up for a new generation. Light and versatile lifestyle sunglasses are part of the Oakley ethos, and the Eric Koston Frogskins are no exception.

Caravelle watches are a stunning, creatively-designed range that really heralds the changes going on in the New York City fashion landscape. Caravelle watches re-write the future of watch manufacture as an ultimate fashion accessory. Since 1962, the Caravelle brand has taken beautiful components, fine materials and stunning jewellery and embellishments to take on even the similarly-priced non-jewelled watch market.

Part of Bulova’s ethos when creating Caravelle NY was to spearhead timekeeping fashion; the range certainly does that, with a variety of hues and materials to reflect the beauty, the effervescence and the dynamism of New York City itself. Choosing from lines such as the Carla (which revitalises the thin straps and large faces of the original designs) and the Bangle’s element of new-age chic,  it’s easy to see why Caravelle New York takes a keen spin on the classic styles that made Bulova timekeepers to define generations. Fascinating components on offer include tortoiseshell effects, acetates, gold and rose-gold plated bracelets, leather straps and a whole host of stainless steel links for men’s ranges, all with the revolutionary timekeeping technology that gave Caravelle its household name.

Oakley Infinite Hero: strength and performance, for the very best!

The Oakley Infinite Hero range of sunglasses are a stunning, incredibly-designed range that incorporates the familiar O Matter frames and Plutonite lenses but with a vital purpose; American servicemen and women rely on the proceeds from the Infinite Hero sunglasses to receive therapy and treatment for physical and psychological war injuries.

Oakley has long associated with the good work the US servicemen and women do in many parts of the globe; to acknowledge this, Oakley devised the Infinite Hero campaign and, having raised $1.3m since 2012, looks to raise a further $1m by November 2014.  15% of every purchase from Oakley’s Infinite Hero range goes to the Infinite Hero fund, which shows why the Oakley brand is among the finest in the world, exhibiting clear vision both figuratively and literally.

The campaign uses the colour purple to replicate the Purple Heart, awarded to brave US servicemen and women who have gone above and beyond the call of duty even while wounded. From Fuel Cell to Frogskin, Breadbox to Garage Rock, they can be found here at Shade Station, and we are thrilled to stock such an eclectic choice of Oakley sunglasses for such a worthy cause.
